'The Chinese Cinderella', written by Adeline Yen Mah is an autobiography. It tells us about her childhood around the 1940s and how she was neglected by her family. Her step mother seems to hate her and sends her to boarding school.
Adeline’s mother died after giving birth to her. Her father remarried and became almost like a servant to his wife, hey lived in Tianjin with their dog Jackie her brothers and sister are horrible to her not to mention her half brother and half sister are treated like part of the royal family!
When she was 5 she had to walk to her school everyday and her school was 1.5 kilometers away. Her father and step mom fled to Shang Hi without their children, a few years later her and her family moved to Shang Hi to live with their Father but her Aunty stayed behind.
One day she and her brothers and sisters were given a pet duck each, she named hers P.L.T. (Precious Little Treasure) and treated her like her best friend. One night they were out in the garden testing Jackie’s obedience skills by sitting P.L.T. out in front of her but Jackie pounced and Killed P.L.T..
She was sent back to Tianjin to go to school and soon enough she was the last person there. But her step Mothers sister took her to Hong Kong with them to live with Her Father. She was sent to boarding school and was nicknamed ‘Scholar’. One day she was taken away from school to attend her grandpa’s Funeral.
At her boarding school she got a letter from her Aunt in Shang Hi and it told her the story of the Chinese Cinderella.
‘The Chinese Cinderella’ is a very sad storey and it is hard to believe that so many children (manley girls) in china and many other countries around the world and unwanted.
